2025 Review

I'm not even going to review the list I made at the beginning of the year, because not much got done on that list and it will continue to be a list of goal pieces for the future, probably for the next several years.

However, I did learn a lot about how to practice and how to plan and organize goals this year. I also learned that there is a degree of just exploring and having fun that needs to be a part of learning music and playing the piano, its the best way to learn and otherwise what's the point!?!?

I have seen much improvement in sight reading, coordination, rhythm and understanding the structure of pieces. I still want to spend time exploring musicality and sound, as well as improvisation and more composing.

I've learned that each piece needs its own practice plan, while some techniques and concepts learned do indeed pass on to future pieces, to really play a piece well it needs to be learned very deeply, and care taken to work out preparations of the hand and gestures and timing ... like a choreographed dance of the fingers and arms across the keyboard.

I've also finally accepted that this is not a linear path and that's not how progress flows. I have decided to backtrack and review some fundamental concepts and pieces that I did not spend enough time on during this journey. And most importantly SLOW DOWN and enjoy the view.
